    Course Summary

A BA in acting from Art University Bournemouth is exactly what you need to take your innate talent and creativity and turn them into a career in performing for the stage or screen. If you have the talent, the passion and the discipline to dedicate yourself to this craft, AUB’s degree program will give you the skill, experience and technical ability to succeed.

You’ll have access to some of the best facilities in the nation as you progress through your degree, including acting studios as well as specialised spaces dedicated to movement and voice work. Of course there is plenty of rehearsal and performance space on campus as well as a fully equipped back box theatre.

The program is led by Katherine Piercey, who has acted in theatre, film and advertising and also composes and performs piano, flute and vocal music. Her research focus is on how music can enhance theatrical pieces.

    Course Outline

This BA program is delivered over 3 years at full time. However, part-time attendance is an option for many students.

    Year 1:

In the first year of AUB’s Acting BA program will help you approach acting from a psychophysical perspective. You’ll explore the ‘Stanislavski Method’ and its modern descendants, as well as taking classes on movement, use of voice and singing.

    Year 2:

Over year 2 you’ll explore the demands of Psychological Realism in acting. You’ll come to understand what the audience wants and needs from you as an actor, and will see you preparing for and delivering a performance to a university based audience. You’ll also begin to develop your own personal methodology to the craft.

    Year 3:

In your last year, you’ll refine your skills, as well as putting them to the test by taking on several roles in multiple plays. It will be your chance to practice your craft in front of real world audiences.

    Learning And Teaching

AUB’s teaching methods vary dramatically from module to module, but they all have a few things in common. You will of course attend lectures, but most of your class time will be spent gaining hands-on practical acting skills. Each module will include interactive tutorial sessions, and many will give you free access to the Studio where you can work freely on your projects with  the support of expert staff.

    Career Possibilities

AUB’s acting graduates have gone on to find success in films – both at the feature and independent levels – as well as in the theatre. Recent graduates have appeared in several BBC dramas or toured with London’s National Theatre. Your in-depth training and the acting experience you’ll build will be a huge boost to your employability as an actor. In addition, AUB’s Careers and Employability Service will support you every step of the way.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree.

Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A Levels at BBB or higher, which may not include General Studies. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
