    Course Summary

Art University Bournemouth’s Animation Production BA degree program is a great way to learn the art – and craft – of animation as well as a chance to fully develop your own unique animation style. You’ll learn a wide range of technical styles, new artistic skills and become proficient with both state of the art and classic animation equipment.

AUB is dedicated to creating a collaborative community among animators, and to get its students and alumni involved in an on campus studio environment. This will help you to find your own role in the complex world of animation.

One of the high points of this program is the chance to earn a paid placement at a working animation studio during your second year. Recent placements have included Aardman studios in Bristol, Karrot Animation in London, Fabrique D’Images in Luxembourg and even Golden Oak Studios in China. Placement options are highly competitive, though, so make sure to u your best foot forward.

    Course Outline

This BA program is delivered over 3 years at full time. However, part-time attendance is an option for many students.

    Year 1:

In the first year of AUB’s BA in Animation Production sees you learning classic animation techniques as well as the latest industry standard software systems. You’ll explore the ’12 Principles of Animation’ and gain as much practical experience as theoretical understanding.

    Year 2:

Over year 2 you’ll choose a specialty among the many roles within Animation Production, and explore everything from storyboarding and concept design to complex animation and post-production. You’ll also have a chance at an exciting and marketable work placement.

    Year 3:

In your last year, you’ll confirm your area of special skill and develop an extensive portfolio of either CGI, 2D or Stop Motion animation projects. You’ll develop team working skills and effective communication as well as benefit from close mentoring in the on-campus animation studio.

    Learning And Teaching

AUB’s teaching methods vary from module to module, but typically consist of lectures, tutorials and practical classes. Lecture classes might include up to 100 students, but studio and tutorial class sizes will be limited to 30 or less, to ensure each student gets individual attention and support. Teaching will focus on integrating the theory of animation with real world practice, and will be delivered by a series of specialist tutors.

    Career Possibilities

AUB’s Animation Production graduates have found roles in well-known organisations like LucasArts, Lupus, Karrot, Aardman and Pixar. It is no coincidence that many of these studios invited students for working placements while they pursued their degrees.

The university’s Careers and Employability Service will help you prepare for a successful career, and will support you throughout your job search. They offer guidance appointments, CV and interview skills sessions and help of all kinds.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree.

Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A Levels at BBB or higher, which may not include General Studies. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
