    Course Summary

A BSc in Computer Information Systems for Business from Bangor University could be your first step into an exciting career in one of the world’s most rapidly growing specialties. This is a new variant of Bangor’s exiting CIS degree, with a stronger focus on business applications. Essentially, you’ll be learning to adapt and implement software in a commercial and/or industrial context.

You’ll of course study the core concepts of computer science as well as related specialties such as data base architecture, media and display technologies, artificial intelligence, BIM (Business Information Systems) and the art and science of systems administration. You’ll even be able to build a computer network for yourself in the university’s new, highly specialised Network Laboratory.

By the time you graduate, you’ll not only be able to implement information systems, you’ll be able to understand what factors drive future trends in the industry in order to help ‘future proof’ the systems you build, adapt and implement.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Career Possibilities

The School of Computer Science has an excellent graduate employability rating. Much of this is due to the school’s reputation among potential employers, but the truth is that computer science graduates are in such short supply, in the UK and the world over, that most employers simply can’t find enough, The reputation of the school does, however, help graduates quite a bit when they compete for the most desirable of these roles.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

Applicants must typically have earned at least 80 tariff points from any Level 3 Qualification. This might include A Levels, BTEC, Irish Highers, or many others. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

Most classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall would qualify.
