    Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over 3 years at full time. Adding either a year in professional placement or a foundation year would make it a 4 year program. Each year will comprise 6 20-credit modules.

    Professional Placement Year (optional)

    Though optional, it is strongly advised that you consider taking a year in work placement between years 2 and 3 of the program. This will give you vital real world experience in the fashion industry.

    Learning And Teaching

    You’ll attend formal lectures and interactive tutorials, read independently, and interact with the fashion industry throughout the program. Year one will convey the basics of 2D and 3D design, with a special emphasis on using the standard tools of the fashion industry. Year 2 will focus more heavily on research, development and translation of the design process and building your fashion portfolio. Year 3 will see you working as a designer for external companies and entering international design competitions.

    Career Possibilities

    Bath Spa University’s Fashion Design program prepares you to either continue to a Master’s level program in fashion or business, or to enter the industry directly as a technical designer, styling

    product developer, in-house designer, freelance pattern cutter, freelance designer, forecasting

    designer, design consultant, creative pattern cutter or buyer. Recent graduates have accepted roles with brands like Nichole Farhi, Aara, Sharon Wauchob, Old Navy, French Conection, Mulberry, Toast and more.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree.

    Applicants must typically have earned 3 A Levels at CCC (including a fashion or textile related subject), or the international equivalent. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no section scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
