    Course Summary

Bournemouth University’s BA degree program in Accounting and Business is delivered by their Business School, a well-regarded and fully AACSB accredited organisation. It also offers exemptions from a range of accountancy qualifications, allowing you to skip many of the examinations required to become a Chartered Accountant or to take on other professional roles.

You’ll learn the core skills of both accounting and business. You’ll develop financial expertise, keen strategic insight and the analytical skills you’ll need to found a rewarding career in finance or even to found and lead your own start-up or SME.

You’ll have the opportunity to spend 30-48 weeks in work placement as well. This will be arranged through the university, and could see you getting advanced training and real world accounting, finance or business management experience nearly anywhere in the UK or abroad. This is something employers really appreciate, and puts you in a very competitive position.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Learning And Teaching

BU’s Accounting and Business BA is heavily focused on guided independent learning. You will of course attend lectures and seminars, but you will be expected to do a substantial amount of reading and research and coursework on your own time. In year one, only 20& of your learning time will be in ‘contact’ activities such as classes and seminars. The remaining 80% will be dedicated to independent learning. That will drop to 16%/84% by year 3.

    Career Possibilities

Typically, more than 90% of Bournemouth University’s Accounting and Business graduates will either find suitable work or had entered a higher degree program within 6 months of successfully completing their degrees. Recent graduates have accepted very rewarding roles at organisations like Vodafone, Airbus, Threadneedle Investments, Miscox, IBM, Arcadia, HMRC, Deutche Bank, Deloitte, and Barclays Bank PLC. Many are offered employment with their work placement organisation, though this is not guaranteed.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree. Applicants must typically have achieved 104-120 UCAS tariff points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted. International qualifications for this course can be found here. All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by achieving an IELTS score of 6.0 overall and no less than 5.5 in any one section.
