    Course Summary

Bournemouth University’s Mechanical Engineering MEng program is designed to create the highly skilled and capable Masters level engineers and technology leaders that so many industries demand. It is also IED and IMechE certified, and you will graduate with the academic basis for Incorporated Engineer status. Full Chartered Engineer status will be available as well, after you gain some working experience.

Many MEng graduates find themselves fast-tracked to supervisory or management roles soon after being hired, and this degree gives you the technical and management skills you’ll need to excel at both roles. You’ll learn the maths and sciences behind Engineering as well as the strategic skills you’ll need to apply emerging technologies to business and technical challenges alike.

You can also participate in an optional (but highly advisable) work placement of 30-48 weeks in year 3. This will establish that you have good professional skills as well as a bit of experience.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

BU’s Mechanical Engineering MEng degree program combines the content of a standard 3 year BEng degree and a year of Master’s level content at the end. You’ll enjoy a flexible learning environment which combines large lecture classes, smaller seminars and a range of group and individual projects. You’ll learn to collaborate just as you will in your career, working in industry standard facilities, often on projects with real world applications.

    Career Possibilities

As of the latest results, 90% of Bournemouth University’s MEng graduates had found suitable work or entered higher level degree programs within 6 months of recovering their MEng. Recent graduates are now working for organisations like Visteon, Pall Aerospace, Modulift, General Electric Aviation, Canyons and Aish Technologies Limited. Historically, many have received job offers from the companies who hosted their work placement. However, this is by no means guaranteed.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 4 year MEng degree. Applicants must typically have achieved 104-120 UCAS tariff points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted. International qualifications for this course can be found here. All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by achieving an IELTS score of 6.0 overall and no less than 5.5 in any one section.
