Course Summary
Bournemouth University offers a very practice-oriented BSc in Psychology. The program is accredited by the British Psychological Society, and if you graduate with second class honours or better you will have established the Graduate Basis for Chartership with that organisation. That is a major milestone on the way to being able to work as a Chartered Psychologist, which is a career-making achievement.
You’ll discover the broad theories and evidential work that underlies the modern study of psychology and gain the kind of skills that practicing psychologists use on a day to day basis. You’ll become conversant with biological, social, developmental and cognitive psychology and will be able to build a specialty for yourself – perhaps in neuropsychology, Educational psychology, clinical practice or forensic applications.
You can also participate in an optional (but highly advisable) work placement of 30-48 weeks in year 3. This will establish that you have good professional skills as well as a bit of experience.
If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
