    The criminal justice system is extensive, and its protections touch everyone in Canada in one way or another. Camosun College’s Diploma in Criminal Justice is a great choice for students who wish to gain a deeper critical understanding of that system it will prepare you to work within it as a front line practitioner or to transfer into a more advanced degree program and eventually help define or oversee it.

    This program can be taken with or without an internship or co-operative element. Those who take advantage of this opportunity can expect to gain a substantial amount of real world experience in the criminal justice system, and will be much more attractive to employers and recruiters for traditional 4 year BA or BSc programs alike. Internships can take place at any time, even following your last term at Camosun. Note that some internships will be unpaid and other will be paid.

    Internship (Optional):

    If you choose to take an internship, you’ll have to take 1 module in addition to attending the internship itself – Workplace Education Prep.

    If you include at least one internship work term, your diploma will have the ‘with Internship’ designation.

    Learning And Teaching

    Camosun’s educational focus has always been intensely practical, largely due to its shared history as a vocational school. Class sizes are small – typically no more than 40 students – and there are a wide range of practicum, internship and co-operative education options to make sure that you can graduate with more than a diploma, but also real world skills in your field or industry of choice. In this case, you’ll also have access to many volunteer opportunities.

    Career Possibilities

    Many of the students who graduate from Camosun College’s various Diploma programs transfer into baccalaureate level degree programs at fine universities all over Canada and the world. The Criminal Justice program is popular with students who plan to attend BA programs in Criminology, Sociology and other social sciences. The opportunity to gain real world work experience will not only make you immediately employable, it will give you an edge in a higher degree program.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a Diploma in Criminal Justice, with or without an Internship Designation

    Interested students will need to have a good secondary level education or the international equivalent before they can apply.

    All classes are taught in English unless otherwise noted. Students for non-English speaking countries may have to take an English language test.
