    Course Summary

    City University London’s BSc degree in Accounting and Finance is an excellent choice for ambitious, driven students who want to make a name for themselves either in the accounting profession, in management, or in the financial services industry in the UK or abroad.

    You’ll study financial accounting, corporate finance, taxation, financial management and the theories of economics more generally. The program is accredited by the ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), and successful completion can lead to multiple exemptions from testing into Chartered Accountant certification or other statuses.

    This program incorporates an optional year in professional placement. This is an opportunity to gain real world professional skills and to see how accountants really work on a day to day basis. It is also a real feather in your cap when it comes time to apply for your first few positions in accounting or the financial industry.

    Placement or Study Abroad Year

    You’ll have the option of taking a year between years 2 and 3 in which you’ll learn about Accounting and Finance in less conventional but very important ways. Option one is to take an arranged working placement with one of City University London’s partner organisations in the UK or abroad. Option two is to study Accounting and Finance at an overseas university which partners with City for this purpose. The modules would be taught in English.

    Learning And Teaching

    The work you’ll do in the Accounting and Finance BSc program will be constantly assessed, and you’ll have regular feedback. That assessment will be based on group and individual projects, presentations, quizzes and tests delivered via a Virtual learning Environment coursework and end of term examinations. In the first year, your assessed work with be 68% written, 6% practical and 26% coursework. Year 2 is 71% written and 29% coursework and your final year is 53% written, 47% coursework.

    Career Possibilities

    This is an industry which demands more professionals than the UK can typically provide, so employment rates for graduates are high. Recent graduates of this program have become Consultants, Tax Advisors, Financial Analysts and Auditors with organisations like Deloitte, EY, J P Morgan, KPMG, PwC and UBS. Many graduates find that they receive an offer of permanent employment from their placement host, but this is not guaranteed. It is your responsibility to impress them!

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A levels at AAA or better, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no section scoring lover than 6.0 would qualify, for example.
