    Course Summary

    City University of London’s MSc degree in Business Economics & International Business Economics is designed for new business graduates and working people with appropriate professional qualifications who want to improve their promotion potential or transition to a new, more responsible or more rewarding career path.

    You’ll study economics in depth, and learn how to apply economic analysis principles to all aspects of business and international business decisions. You’ll learn to use the tools of economics and business efficiently, including applications from Bankscope, Orbis, Morning Star, Bloomberg and Datastream. You’ll also attend guest lectures form some of London’s most high profile guest speakers.

    The modules are all research-led, many presented by leading experts in their specialist fields. They will ensure that you come to understand the mathematics and theories which underlie these principles. They’ll also give you the leadership and personnel management skills you’ll need to thrive in any business environment.

    Course Outline

    This is a 1 year program for most students, but can be taken over 2 years at part time.

    You will take a total of nine modules, including the core modules and those selected from the electives list.

    You’ll take all of the ‘core’ content in the first semester of the program. Semester 2 will be devoted to your choice of electives, allowing you to specialise your degree pathway. Note that if you take this program as ‘International Business Economics’ instead of ‘Business Economics’ you must take the International Business Economics’ module in semester 2. Semester 3 will focus mainly on your final research project.

    Learning & Teaching

    The modules in this program are delivered as lectures, seminars, interactive group work sessions and/or a series of student presentations. The lectures will also be available for replay online. Some modules will incorporate computer sessions to enhance your econometric and statistical skills. You will also undertake an extensive research project or a survey of economics literature at the end of the program. The choice of topic is up to you, within the remit of the program.

    City is very well thought if amongst employers in London, the UK and internationally. In addition to recruiters form the private sector, graduates are often approached by the Government Economics Service with job offers. There are a very wide range of options open to graduates of the Business Economics and International Business Economics program, though. Careers-based events at the Cass Business School and the School of Arts and Social Sciences throughout the year can help you plot your deal career course.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved a 2:1 honours bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no section scoring lover than 6.0 would qualify, for example.
