    Course Summary

    The Health Management MSc degree from City University of London was created to produce the next generation of leaders, managers and upper level executives in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, as well as to supply the highly skilled management consultancy personnel these industries demand in higher and higher numbers.     Course Outline

    This is a 1 year program for most students, but can be taken over 2 years at part time.

    You will take a total of seven modules, as well as undertaking an extensive dissertation.

    • Health Innovation and Change
    • Finance and Enterprise Performance
    • Economic Evaluation and Pharma
    • Health Management Consultancy
    • Research Methods and Applied Data Analysis

     

    Dissertation:

    This will be a comprehensive piece dealing with health-related business issues or business studies more generally. Recent dissertations have been about topics such as:

    • Developing a strategic plan for a hospital group in the private sector
    • Developing a marketing plan for the launch of a new drug development project
    • A plan for improving and developing the services of a clinical directorate
    • A study of resource planning implementations in health services
    • A study of the way shared decision making in the use of medicines differs between developed and developing countries

    Course Outline

    Modules will be delivered as lectures, seminars, interactive group work sessions and/or a series of student presentations. Approximately 30% of your contact time in this program will be presented as lectures from City’s Health Management Team. Another 30% will be delivered by guest speakers form the scientific community or one of the health-related industries. The final 40% will consist of interactive, team based learning activities. Assessment is based on exams, coursework and projects.

    Career Possibilities

    Recent graduates of the program have gone on to work with organisations like Almirall, Best Doctors, Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Capita Consulting, First Prime Co., Ltd, Fairview Hospital Zambia, Golin London, JDX Consulting, Health Designs, Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, IMS Health, Lundbeck, Medpace, Mullen Lowe Lintas Group, National Medical Care Co, Orica, Symmetron, Texas Children’s Hospital, and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Their salaries are generally in the £50,000 per year range.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved a 2:1 honours honours degree in an appropriate subject, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no section scoring lover than 6.0 would qualify, for example.
