    Course Summary

Biology is a wide and varied field of study, covering the entire range of human knowledge of living things and life processes. It includes the study of plants, animals, fungi and the symbiotic groupings which blur the line between these distinctions.

The University of Dalhousie’s BSc in Biology includes a strong focus on both academia and practical laboratory and fieldwork skills, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ‘get your hands dirty’ doing meaningful work within your chosen specialty, such as field work at the tidal pools of Nova Scotia’s beautiful coastline to collect samples.

There will also be opportunities to participate in Dal’s Science Co-op Program. This would involve paid work in an off campus research lab or similar facility.

You’ll develop important transferrable skills, learning how to apply computer technology to the field of biology, and to develop the written and oral communication skills that you’ll rely upon in any carer.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
