    Course Summary

A BMedSci (Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science) from De Montfort University will give you more than a solid background in the mathematics, research and theory behind modern, evidence-led medical science. It will give you the clinical skills which will take you to the next step of your medical career. In fact, more than 94% of students who successfully complete this program go into further study or appropriate employment within 6 months of graduation (as of 2017).

You’ll learn core life science principles, anatomy, human physiology and diagnostic techniques as part of the core curriculum. You’ll then be able to choose your own specialty from a list including Endocrinology, Pathology, Nutrition, Physiology and Immunology.

DMU also offers the chance to take a year in work placement between years 2 and 3 of this program. Though optional, this is an opportunity to better understand the real work environment of your chosen career pathway and/or develop patient-facing skills in an actual clinical context.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
