    Course Summary

A BSc in Human Biology from Edge Hill University is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of the way the human body works, both in health and under the effects of illness or injury. You’ll study background theory, various laboratory and technical skills, and the emerging discoveries in this exciting field.

A solid understanding of Human Biology and its associated laboratory skills can be key to taking advantage of rewarding employment opportunities or taking the first step towards higher level degree programs at the Master’s or eventually the PhD level.

You may be able to spend your third year in a working placement or studying abroad under the ERASMUS scheme, making this a 4 year degree. Either would be an incredible opportunity to expand your horizons, and gain either an international perspective on your chosen career or to gain real world working skills in your chosen career pathway.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Learning & Teaching

Edge Hill’s Human Biology BSc program is primarily conveyed through guided independent study, lecture classes, and smaller scale tutorials or seminar sessions. It also has a strong practical component, though, and you’ll spend a great deal of time developing the kind of laboratory skills which could form the foundation of your academic or industrial biological career. In addition, you’ll do fieldwork on a residential session in Cyprus and may take work placement.

    Career Possibilities

There are three primary paths graduates tend to follow, though there are many other options. First, many go directly into employment in a health or biology oriented industry. Second, some students look into post-graduate degree programs with an eye towards teaching qualifying for research-based employment. Third, some students will go on to academic careers, working up to a PhD program at Edge Hill or another fine university. The choice is entirely yours.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

Applicants must typically have achieved 120 UCAS tariff points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and no less than 5.5 in any subsection would qualify, for example.
