    Course Summary

Edge Hill University’s Law degree program gives you the general background and understanding of UK law required for any student who wishes to undertake a training contract (the next step to becoming a barrister or solicitor in the UK). However, it also gives you the opportunity to specialise your legal education in accordance with your own interests and career goals. You might gain a specialty in Family Law, International Property Law, Tax law, or any of a long list of 3rd year options.

You may be able to spend your third year in a professional placement or studying abroad under the ERASMUS scheme, making this a 4 year degree. Either would be an incredible opportunity to expand your horizons, and gain either an international perspective on your legal specialty or to gain real world legal skills right here in the UK. You can also gain experience actually practicing law (under close supervision) at the university’s Pro Bono Law Clinic.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

These will make certain that your grasp of the lecture content is complete, and allow you to apply those theories to real world examples. Your progress will be assessed regularly, based on your care reports, essays presentations and legal analyses. Feedback will be given in every case.

As a graduate of Edge Hill University’s LLB program, you’ll be fully qualified to take the next step towards the practice of law as a barrister or solicitor – your training contract. However, that is far from your only option. You will have a wide rage of transferrable skills at your disposal, and you’ll be able to turn them into a career in a field like banking, public administration, journalism, insurance or even retail management.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year LLB degree.

Applicants must typically have achieved 112 UCAS tariff points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and no less than 5.5 in any subsection would qualify, for example.
