    Course Summary

A Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree with a major in Industrial Design is perfect for students who want to change the way people relate to objects for the better.

You’ll study the way objects of all kinds deliver symbolic, technical, social, ecological, historic, economic and cultural value, and how commercial products and processes deliver value, safety and comfort to consumers. In addition to theory and process, you’ll learn the down to earth skills that will help you develop your own personal design practice.

Every major offered by the Emily Carr University of Art and Design begins with the same core Foundation Year content. This foundation year includes core skills for every creative discipline, and will teach you quite a bit about art and design both in the classroom and in the studio. You will be encouraged to make your final choice of major only after getting a grounding in all of the subjects in which you could choose to specialise.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
