    Course Summary

A Bachelor of Media Arts (BMA) degree with a major in New Media and Sound Arts will focus on the ever evolving relationship between new technologies, so-called ‘New Media’, and the many ways it is now possible to make artistic expression available to the public.

You’ll study the technical and creative framework within which you can create new, experimental media projects and research. In addition to a lot of content on sound specifically, you’ll explore visual, performative and objet-making techniques.

Every major offered by the Emily Carr University of Art and Design begins with the same core Foundation Year content. This foundation year includes core skills for every creative discipline, and will teach you quite a bit about art and design both in the classroom and in the studio. You will be encouraged to make your final choice of major only after getting a grounding in all of the subjects in which you could choose to specialise.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
