    Course Summary

A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a major in Photography is a great place to learn what you need to know to forge a professional career as a photographer, whether your ambition like in the commercial arena, in the expressive arts or in another realm entirely.

You’ll study photography through historical, conceptual and technical lenses, and learn in one of the university’s most multidisciplinary environments. Yu will study traditional, analogue and digital photography techniques and discover your own unique practice.

Every major offered by the Emily Carr University of Art and Design begins with the same core Foundation Year content. This foundation year includes core skills for every creative discipline, and will teach you quite a bit about art and design both in the classroom and in the studio. You will be encouraged to make your final choice of major only after getting a grounding in all of the subjects in which you could choose to specialise.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
