    Course Summary

A BSc in Medicinal Chemistry and Biology from Keele University is a combined degree, and you’ll learn from 2 different perspectives. It will teach you new ways to solve human problems using chemistry, pharmacology and molecular biology.

In studying Biology, you’ll learn about how life evolved, and how different organisms have come to form complex bonds with each other and their environment. You’ll not only explore life on the ecological, organismal, cellular and molecular levels, you’ll study the philosophical and ethical issues this science gives rise to.

In studying Medicinal Chemistry, you’ll add to your general Biological education with ways to search for or develop new drugs and treatments for disease. You’ll learn to work in well-equipped laboratories and how to conduct an entire research project from start to finish. You’ll even have the opportunity to practice your laboratory and professional skills at a laboratory, industrial or research placement in your third year.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
