    Course Summary

Keele University’s BSc degree program in Psychology (with Counselling) is essentially similar to their Single Honours Psychology degree program save for the addition of modules on counselling theory, specific counselling skills and on personal development.

In studying Psychology, you’ll learn about how the practice of psychology impacts people’s lives. You’ll learn to initiate, design and conduct psychological experiments and studies, to use the latest, most advanced lab equipment and the most exacting quantitative research techniques. You’ll understand how this can all be made to work to better lives in the clinical, industrial and commercial contexts as well.

The counselling modules you’ll be taking will allow you to specialise in person-centred psychology. You’ll explore the issues and debates affecting counselling practice today, and develop your self-reflection, communication and listening skills in particular.

Whilst this course does start you on the path towards being a Chartered or Counselling Psychologist, it is not a practising qualification in and of itself.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
