    Course Outline

There are three primary components to your curriculum:

    Core Curriculum:

Initially, you will be learning the basics of both dentistry and medicine. You’ll learn the biomedical sciences, including microbiology, pathology, and epidemiology. You’ll also explore the basics of the behavioural sciences at this stage.

    Oral and Dental Science:

You will then study those aspects of the biological sciences which affect the mouth in greater detail. You’ll build an understanding of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of various disorders of the mouth and teeth, as well as the oral and dental effects of more systemic complaints.

    Clinical and Technical Dentistry:

Here you will learn (and practice) dental healthcare provision, and come to understand the needs of patients of all ages in a variety of settings.

    Learning & Teaching

This is a highly integrated program. The scientific and academic aspects will all relate directly to clinical practice, and your clinical experiences will be engineered to enhance your scientific skills. You’ll be working in cross-year teams of undergraduate students, and will therefore build close relationships with a single group of students and staff throughout your education at King’s.

    Career Possiblities

This degree naturally prepares you for your requisite Dental Foundation training year, and eventual dental practice. However, that is a very wide field, with many specialties. After you finish your Dental Foundation Training, you might go into general practice. You might wish to become a consultant in a hospital dental service. Other options include working your way up to being a specialist practitioner or a senior clinical academic in a teaching environment.
