    Course Summary

Kingston University’s BSc in Accounting and Finance is the perfect next step for students with GCSE level Maths and English skills who wish to pursue a career as a Financial Analyst, a Company Secretary, a Treasurer, an Auditor or an Accountant.

You’ll learn more than just accounting skills, though. This degree includes a Business Readiness Program which will demonstrate to employers that you have the skills you need to jump directly into a career as well as the academic skills you’ll need to thrive. Other options include a year abroad, a year in professional work placement and an integrated foundation year.

This degree program is fully accredited by the Association of Corporate Treasurers, and offers many exam exemptions from that organisation. Exemptions are also offered by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), should you prefer a career in accountancy.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

Kingston University’s business courses are typically delivered to small groups of students in a practical, interactive environment. Critical thinking lateral thinking and independent learning are all emphasised. As are the application of theory to real world situations and problems.

You’ll attend formal lectures, skill-based workshops and computer or lab sessions, as well as conducting quite a bit of independent reading and study. You’ll also have access to the school’s online resources and virtual student forums.

    Career Possiblities

Kingston’s degree programs are specifically crafted to make you a highly employable graduate. The curriculum is constantly updated to ensure that you are learning the best practices of a wide range of organisations, and that you are familiar with the latest thinking in the field. You’ll have the advantage over many graduates in that upon completing the program you’ll be exempt from many ACT, CIMA, ICAEW and ACCA tests, setting you a long way towards professional status.

Successful completion will result in a full BSc degree.

Students must typically have been awarded 120 UCAS Tariff Points to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall would qualify, for example.
