    Course Summary

    Kingston University offers a unique program in Aviation Engineering, which is a great starting point for any technically minded student with an interest in flight and avionics who wants to forge a career in Engineering. The program is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society, providing evidence that successful graduates have many of the traits required to achieve Incorporated Engineer status within that organisation.

    You’ll learn key skills allowing you to perform tasks relating to aircraft design and manufacturing, support and maintenance, logistics, systems integration, aviation management and airworthiness certification. You’ll also have access to many optional modules.

    You have the option of taking a year in work placement between years 2 and 3 of this program. This will give you vital real world experience as well as the opportunity to learn real world working skills from experts in their fields. There are many placement opportunities throughout Greater London, and especially at Gatwick Airport.

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness.     Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered over three years at full time. However, it is also available with a year in working placement, making it a four year program if that route is taken. Part time options may also be available.

    Year in Work Placement (optional)

    The university will work with you to arrange up to a year in working placement at an organisation which is a close match to your intended career pathway. This will ensure that you have an experience which looks great on your CV. It will also ensure that you have the opportunity to begin building the kind of professional network that you’ll need to succeed in this competitive industry.

    Learning & Teaching

    Kingston University’s Aviation Engineering BEng program is delivered using a variety of learning and teaching methods. These include enquiry based skills workshops, problem based tutorials, and other small group or one on one learning opportunities. Large scale lectures have largely been eliminated, except for the most basic introductory classes. Your progress will be assessed via your exams, your coursework and your practical projects. Whenever possible, feedback with  be delivered rapidly.

    Career Possiblities

    The curriculum is constantly updated to ensure that you are learning the best practices of a wide range of organisations, and that you are familiar with the latest thinking in the field. Recent graduates have taken on roles involving productions and control engineering, technical services, design and planning, logistics, quality assurance, flightworthiness certification and maintenance work for organisations like aerospace companies, UK and overseas military organisations and the civil aviation infrastructure.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full BEng degree.

    Students must typically have been awarded 112 UCAS Tariff Points to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no element below 5.5 would qualify, for example.
