    A BSc in Applications of Mathematics from Kwantlen Polytechnic University combines traditional, academic mathematics modules with some very specialised modules designed to help you apply those abstract principles in new and exciting ways. Not only will you get a sense for the many diverse fields which use advanced mathematical sills on a daily basis, you’ll learn relevant skills for a wide range of careers. 

    You will also be able to choose a particular concentration, form among Mathematics Education, Computational mathematics or Biomathematics. These are specialties which are not generally available at the undergraduate level, making this program unique in all of Canada.

    The degree program includes opportunities to explore the application of mathematics on the research and commercial levels, as well as several different co-operative and experiential learning options. Some of the courses may even include a service-learning component, where you will apply what you have learned in the Vancouver Metro Area.

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness.     Learning And Teaching

    KPU’s Application of Mathematics program is delivered primarily through lectures, skills workshops and regular seminar sessions. Some modules may be available as distance learning or blended learning programs. In addition to learning in the classroom and the studio, though, you’ll have access to experiential learning (field schools, practicums, and co-operative courses), extra-curricular learning where you can meet new people and gain experience both on campus and off, and co-curricular experiences which can dramatically improve your employability.  

    Career Possibilities

    Many recent graduates of KPU’s BSc program in Application of Mathematics have in fact gone on to study Maths or a related field at the MSc level. Others have taken on exciting roles in fields where they can apply these skills directly, such as biomedical engineering, biotechnology, clean energy, decision theory, econometrics, engineering technology, financial analysis, hydrogen and fuel cell technology, management science, mathematics education or operations research.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a BSc degree. 

    Applicants to the BSc program must first be admitted to the Faculty of Science. This will require a secondary education, or the international or Aboriginal equivalent.

    All classes are taught in English unless otherwise noted, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
