    Course Summary

    A BA in Fashion Photography from Leeds Arts University will help you build a familiarity with those aspects of the fashion industry which take place on the other side of the lens. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with different, innovative and creative approaches and given all of the tool and facilities you need to create striking images, films and other visual media. You’ll learn to operate in a collaborative, multidisciplinary studio environment. This program will also see you learning from renowned speakers from all parts of the fashion and photography fields.

    You’ll study a wide range of fashion photography techniques, as well as learning about the relationship between living fashion and still images. You’ll study the different aesthetic and stylistic approaches fashion photography has adopted historically and recently, and learn to work closely with stylist, makeup artists, art directors and of course the models themselves to create the kind of images which stir emotions and make for commercial success.

    Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over 3 years at full time.

    • The BA Route

    If you take the full 360 credits, you’ll be awarded a BA (Hons) in Fashion Photography. Alternatively, you can earn a BA in Fashion Photography without honours by taking 300 credits over 3 years.

    • The DipHE Route

    Taking 240 credits over 2 years can earn you a DipHE in Fashion Photography.

    • The CertHE Route

    You also have the option of taking this as a one year, 120 credit course will result in a CertHE in Fashion Photography.

    Throughout your time at Leeds Arts University you’ll experience a wide range of teaching methods. These will include some or all of:

    Career Possiblities

    In recent years, Leeds Arts University Fashion Photography students have gone on to become Post-Production Specialists of various kinds, Picture Editors, Art Directors, Production Assistants, Fashion Film Makers, and Fashion Photographers, either in an agency or freelance context. Others have used the transferrable skills they have developed as a part of this program to go completely different directions. They have established careers in other industries, including cultural management, marketing or public relations.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree.

    Applicants must typically have a well-constructed portfolio of work, but other qualifications are also accepted. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test, such as the IELTS.
