    Course Summary

    Liverpool Hope University’s BSc in Computer Science is dedicated to innovation and exploring new opportunities. Computer Science has applications in almost every modern industry, and each advance has a dramatic effect on society and culture. Beyond the technical education you’ll receive, you’ll gain an understanding of the ethical issues such wide-ranging developments create.

    As you study, you’ll explore concepts like robotics, network architecture, applied robotics, mobile computing technology, virtual an augmented reality, and all the possibilities still to be realised from the internet. You’ll also learn programming languages such as Python, Lua, Java, C, C++, x86 and ARM.

    As a part of this program, you’ll spend a year in a paid industrial placement. This will be a tremendous opportunity to learn real world skills and see how computer scientists and systems engineers are building the future. It will also come with a welcome pay check, and a huge boost to your CV.

    Course Outline

    Year 1

    The first year of this program focuses on introducing you to the core concepts of computer science. It will also give you some practical technical skills. You’ll study Computer Systems, Computational Methods, Algorithm Design and of course Computer Programming. 

    Year 2

    In your second year you’ll build on first year concepts with more specialised modules. You’ll explore programming in greater depth, as well as studying Databases, Operating Systems, Computer networks and the finer points of Website Design.

    Year 3 (Placement Year):

    This will be an excellent opportunity to gain real world working experience, and to impress employers with your ability to produce meaningful results quickly.

    Year 4

    In your final year, you’ll deliver a dissertation based on your own interests and the specialty skills you’ve developed so far. You’ll also study Mobile Computing, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Immersive Technologies like AR, VR and MR, and Advanced Web Technologies.

    Learning & Teaching

    Liverpool Hope’s Learning and Teaching Committee and three Faculty Quality Learning and Teaching Committees ensure that all of the school’s taught modules is factually accurate, at the forefront of technology or thinking in its field, and provide the mix of theoretical understanding and real world skills employers and/or higher education programs demand of graduates. Your progress will be assessed by written assignments, individual reports, tests, essays and end of term exams.

    Career Possiblities

    Liverpool hope’s Computer Science graduates rarely struggle to find rewarding, challenging roles in their chosen industries. You might just as easily find yourself taking a role as a Systems Engineer or a Software Analyst for the likes of Microsoft, Oracle, Barclays or Airbus, or studying for your Master’s or Doctorate.

    Recent graduates have also become Software Engineers, Systems Development and Networking Specialists, and taken roles implementing cutting edge developments in robotics or computer security.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BSc degree with a year in working placement.

    Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A Levels at BBC or higher. International qualifications are also accepted, and can be found here.

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.0 or better overall, and with no sub-section scoring less than 5.5.
