    Course Summary

London South Bank University’s BEng degree programs are well known in many industries for their ability to turn out highly skilled graduates with a mix of high level theoretical understanding of their fields as well as practical, hands-on skills. Their Petroleum Engineering BEng degree is no different, and graduates can look forward to excellent employability and a long, prosperous career.

You’ll choose a specialty in either the petroleum industry, or the closely related chemical processing industries. As you get to know your field better, you’ll learn to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, working on multidisciplinary project teams.

This program incorporates an optional year in industrial placement, making it a 4 year pathway to a ‘3 year’ degree. This is more than an opportunity to gain experience as an engineer, it is a way to set yourself apart from other graduates and earn a substantial pay packet at the same time.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

You’ll be taught by professors who are leaders in their fields, with years of experience. You’ll also be able to rely on both a personal tutor and student mentor throughout your studies. Typically, you’ll spend around 32% of your learning time in a classroom setting and the remainder in self-directed study.

    Career Possiblities

The Oil and Gas and Chemical Process industries are experiencing high demand for skilled graduates, so you will have many opportunities to work in this dynamic field, nearly anywhere in the world. You’ll be a problem solver, a highly skilled technician and perhaps a manager in the office or in the field. Many recent graduates of this program have gone on to become Chartered Engineers, further boosting their employability and earning potential.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BEng degree.

Applicants must typically have achieved at least 122 UCAS Tariff Points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.
