    Course Summary

Biology is the study of life and life processes. It looks at the structure, behaviour, origin and evolution of life, as well as at the many components that make up living tissue and its environment – right down to the molecular level.

The BSc in Biology is heavily research-based. You’ll be able to conduct your own research projects under faculty supervision, and will have access to summer programs offering experience in a research assistant role. Just  a few of the research specialties of Mount Allison’s staff include phytoplankton physiology, neurophysiology, environmental animal physiology, field ecology, fish ecology, marine botany and molecular genetics.

Throughout the program you’ll explore many different scientific disciplines, including Mathematics, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry. You’ll also spend a great deal of time in the lab – you’ll graduate with a great deal of laboratory experience under your belt, which will make you extremely attractive to employers in many industries.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
