    Course Summary

    Psychology is at its heart the application of the scientific method to the study of the mind, emotions, behaviour and the brain itself. It can include all animals, but is most commonly focused on humans. The goals of Psychologists typically include becoming better able to describe, model and predict human behaviour, to optimise aids to human development or t improve the quality of life of patient and the general public.

    Mount Allison University offers two separate Psychology degrees, each with standard and Honours options – the BSc detailed here and a very similar BA program. It also offers Psychology as a minor which can be combined with nearly any other degree Mount Allison offers.

    The BSc in Psychology includes the biological, social and cognitive sciences. It looks at the physiology and evolution of the human mind, the theory of personality and interpersonal relations as well as the origins and future of cognition, sensation and abstract thought.

    Learning And Teaching

    Mount Allison University uses a range of both standard and quite innovative teaching methods. Depending on the subject matter in question, these might include everything from formal lectures, interactive tutorials and skills sessions to laboratory or studio work and seminar style classes.

    The Psychology program includes special content designed to help you explore the scientific method, and apply it to the close observation and experimentation of human and animal behaviour.

    Mount Allison’s Psychology graduates have become art psychologists, art or music therapists, border services and immigration officers, child/youth workers, clinical psychologists, corrections or police officers, doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses, employment or career development counsellors and more.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have completed a university preparatory program at a senior secondary school, or the international equivalent. They should be able to show average marks of at least 65%.

     All classes are taught in English unless otherwise noted, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
