    Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over three years at part time, and the school will work with you to make your studies fit around your availability.

    Year One

    Your first year in Newman University’s MSc program in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, you’ll learn about the theoretical background of therapy, about the ethics that psychotherapists and counsellors are expected to uphold and ways to respect diversity. You will also undergo therapy yourself, amassing some 30 hours in the first year.

    Year Two

    Once you are assessed, you’ll begin your counselling placement in year two. This will eb done under clinical supervision. Both your placement and therapy sessions will continue through year three. You’ll also take more taught modules.

    Year Three

    In the final year of the program, you’ll select taught modules which further explore your chosen specialties, as well as beginning a research project which will inform your Master’s Dissertation.

    Learning & Teaching

    The modules which compose the bulk of Newman University’s Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy MSc program are delivered primarily through weekly lectures. This makes the program easy to attend around work, family or other commitments.

    These lectures and all of their accompanying materials and content will be oriented around making you familiar with the underlying science of the discipline, teaching you to provide competent clinical care, and making you capable of delivering high level academic research.

    One of the most common career pathways for graduates is to study for UKCP registration as Integrative Psychotherapists. This requires approximately 4 years of study and will require you to complete at least 450 hours of clinical practice under exert supervision.

    This course makes excellent preparation for a PhD studies as well.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in an MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have earned a 2:2 or better undergraduate degree and Level 3 Qualification in Counselling Skills, or the international equivalent. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An excellent IELTS score would qualify, for example.
