    This is a qualifying law degree, but you have many options before you besides becoming a solicitor or barrister.     Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over 3 years at full time.

    Initially, you’ll be ‘learning how to learn’ by gaining a solid foundation in legal systems and professional practice. In your second year you’ll learn more advanced concepts, as well as undertaking a work placement module. Your final year will see you specialising your learning to suit your chosen career pathway, as well as undertaking a project or dissertation.

    • Introduction to Legal Skills
    • Introduction to Professional Practice and Work Placement
    • Legal systems
    • The Law of Obligations (Part 1, Contract)

    • European Law
    • Human Rights (optional)
    • International Law (optional)
    • Land Law
    • Professional Practice Work Placement
    • The Law of Obligations (part 2, Tort)

    Year 3 Modules Include:

    • Advanced Legal Practice (Including advocacy)
    • An option taken from a cognate discipline (such as Criminology)
    • Employment Law
    • Equity and Trusts
    • Family Law
    • Law of Business Associations
    • Law of Evidence
    • Project or Dissertation

    Learning & Teaching

    Newman University’s LLB program is delivered primarily through lectures, interactive seminars and practical skills workshops. These methods will see you absorbing a wide range theoretical principles, and learning to apply them in practical ways. Even lecture classes typically only contain a small group of students who will learn to work closely with each other, developing critical teamwork and communication skills. Assessment is primarily through examinations, dissertations and coursework.

    Career Possiblities

    This is a qualifying law degree, and you will be able to apply for a training contract to become a solicitor or barrister upon graduation. However, those are not your only options. In fact, a majority of the graduates of Newman University’s LLB program have gone on to take on other roles where an understanding of the law is highly beneficial, such as a career in advocacy or advice work, accountancy, civil service, corporate governance, HR or business administration.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year LLB degree.

    Applicants must typically have earned 112 UCAS Tariff points, or the international equivalent. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An excellent IELTS score would qualify, for example.
