    Northumbria University’s Business Cyber Security MSc degree program is a great way to find your place in a fast growing industry which is hiring professionals virtually as fast as they can be trained. Part of your studies will involve understanding information governance and assurance procedures and how to comply with regulations like the Data Protection Act.

    Course Outline

    This MSc program is delivered over a single year.

    You’ll study a wide range of highly specialised modules, designed to give you cutting edge skills relating to information security, risk management, securing wired and wireless computer networks, and so called ‘white hat’ ethical hacking and penetration testing methods. On completion, you’ll be able to apply for membership with the BCS.

    On graduation, you’ll know how to:

    • Critically assess computer systems security and outside threats
    • Keep yourself up to date on advances in cyber security and hacking technology
    • Resolve your clients’ security issued creatively and effectively
    • Use the latest cyber security tools and applications effectively
    • Communicate about technical subjects both verbally and in writing
    • Maintain ethics and professionalism in a business context

    Learning & Teaching

    The taught modules of this course will be delivered using a mix of lectures, tutorial and practical or lab sessions. You’ll spend between 12 and 13 hours in class each week, but you’ll also spend around 29 hours each week in independent study and reading. Most of the modules will include TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) elements, including an eLearning portal called Blackboard. You will also have academic support sessions each week and meet regularly with a personal tutor.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved a 2:2 honours degree or better in an IT related subject. Many other qualifications can also accepted. They can be found here.  

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.5 or better overall and no less than 5.5 in any one segment.
