    Course Summary

    A BA in Photography form Norwich University of the Arts is a great way to set yourself apart from ‘hobbyist’ and ‘amateur’ photographers and gain the attention you deserve from employers of all kinds in the photographic industries. An honours BA degree will mark you as a professional in the field, pre-loaded with all the skills you’ll need to perform in a commercial setting.

    Course Outline

    This is a 3 year program for most students, taken at full time.

    Year 1

    Over the course of year one you’ll develop basic storytelling and creative skills, such as script development, production, direction and cinematography. You’ll collaborate on a range of group projects which will test and stretch your abilities in several different film production, preproduction and post production roles.

    Year 2

    Over your second year you’ll begin to work on briefs provided by industry experts and actual clients. This will expand your practical storytelling skills and make you more aware of the industry overall. You’ll work on a variety of types of film, including dramas, documentaries and commercial projects.

    Year 3  

    Over your final year you’ll create an entire short film, from pre-production, filming and direction through to post production. You’ll also write a research report on the project. You’ll receive advice and feedback on your work from a panel of film industry professionals.

    Learning & Teaching

    This is a heavily studio-oriented program, dedicated as much to practical skills as to theory and background. You’ll learn most of your technical skills by performing them, at first under close supervision and then completely independently. You’ll learn how to operate cameras, lighting equipment, and a range of contemporary post-production software. Finally, you’ll get plenty of practice capturing and editing sound at the university’s industry standard recording and editing studio.

    Career Possiblities

    A BA with honours from Norwich University of the Arts may well get your foot in the door with many industry employers, but it is the skills you’ve learned and your innate talent that will really win you the best roles.

    NUA’s Film and Moving Image Production graduates have become Sound Designers, Script Supervisors, Screenwriters, Production Designers, Producers, Location Managers, Editors and Camera Operators as well as Directors, Art Directors, Assistant Directors and Directors of Photography.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A Levels at BBB or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
