    Course Summary

OCAD University’s Bachelor of Design (BDes) program in Graphic Design is largely studio-based, and is taught by leaders, researchers and practitioners who are well known throughout the industry. The curriculum focuses on the design process, strategic thinking, critical expression, image making and typography.

You’ll study and gain experience applying a wide range of skills, such as wayfinding and information systems, typeface design, packaging design, motion graphics, interactive communication, editorial and publication design and brand strategy.

Graphic Design is a field which encourages students with conceptually string principled and innovative ideas. It is a field which demands fresh thinking and new approaches, but also requires an appreciation for what has come before, and the ability to continue on with a visual narrative.

It is also an exciting and competitive field, where a degree from an internationally recognised school like the Ontario College of Art and Design University can be a big boost to your employability, especially in your early career.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
