    Course Summary

OCAD University’s Bachelor of Design (BDes) program in Photography is a fine art program seen through the lens of a contemporary, practice-oriented and studio-based approach. Your instructors will be well known in the arts and in commercial practice.

You’ll explore both traditional and historical photographic practices and techniques as well as learning to use the latest cutting edge technologies and digital photography techniques. The focus will be on helping you to discover your own preferred practice, and stretching its boundaries to exploit all of your creative potential.

You’ll also have many opportunities to gain experience making art or doing commercial work in a real world context. Placements are available, as are exhibitions and other means of getting the exposure you’ll need to forge a successful career.

Photography is a highly competitive field, and a degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design University can be a big boost to your employability, especially in your early career.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
