    Course Summary

    Students get into the Biomedical Sciences for a variety of reasons. Some are planning professional careers as doctors, veterinarians, dentists or something similar. Others plan to attend graduate schools in biochemistry or a related science. Still others are considering a career in bioengineering or bioinformatics. Some simply want to learn more about the science of life and the human body while earning a basic liberal arts education. 

    If you study for a BSc in Biomedical Science at OSU, you’ll learn a great deal about the scientific, evidence based approach to medicine. You’ll take classes in physiology, anatomy, physics, chemistry and biology, as well as in the classic ‘liberal arts’.

    Study Abroad:

    A study abroad experience is available in Guatemala. This will enhance employability dramatically, as employers list ‘cross cultural experience’ and ‘strategic international understanding’ as highly desirable skills.

    Learning And Teaching

    The Ohio State University works to combine traditional and more innovative, interdisciplinary techniques in every course of study they offer. As an OSU student, you can expect to attend both large lecture classes and smaller interactive seminars. 

    Honours courses are typically available, and the Office of Career Management can help you set up internships and other experiential learning opportunities. These will bolster your course learning with practical skills and important contact networks. 

    Career Possibilities

    This degree could prepare you to move up to a professional or graduate degree program, or move directly into the working world. Statistically speaking, around 50% of all Biomedical Science graduates go into medical school (either at OSU or elsewhere). Another 25% go into either a PhD or MD/PhD program, and the remaining 25% go on to graduate or professional programs I optometry, dentistry, public health, etc. Placement is at nearly 100%.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BSc degree.

    To enter any of OSU’s undergraduate programs, you’ll need to have a secondary education – a US High School Diploma or the international equivalent – with good ACT or SAT scores. Acceptance is competitive.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students from non-English speaking countries may be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
