    Course Summary

    A BSc in Psychology from Plymouth Marjon University begins by giving you a solid foundation in psychology generally, including concepts like developmental, social, cognitive and biological psychology. It also touches upon the reasons behind individual differences an on modern psychological research methods.

    You’ll study both in the classroom and in Marjon’s state of the art psychology labs. You’ll learn how to design and conduct research into burning questions like the origin of intelligence and personality, the effects of media on developing minds and more.

    This program is fully certified by the BPS, the British Psychological Society. That means it lays the foundations for a professional career for you, and you may study for full Chartered Psychologist status after successfully completing this program. At that level, you’ll be able to follow through on and special interests you have developed in this program, from Sports and Exercise Psychology, Leadership and Management, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Criminology, Educational Psychology and many more besides.

    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered over 3 years at full time, or over up to six years if delivered at part time.

    Most of your learning will be done in small groups. You can choose a specialty be taking elective modules with related themes. You will also experience professional placement sessions and gain working experience in your specialty.

    Learning & Teaching

    Plymouth Marjon University uses fairly standard teaching methods. These include the familiar modes of large, formal lectures, smaller and more interactive seminars, practical skills workshops and other classroom activities. However, there is also a great deal of emphasis on gaining practical, real world skills. Your progress will be assessed via research reports, essays, presentations and year end exams. You will also conduct presentations and design leaflets.

    Career Possiblities

    More than 95% of Marjon’s graduates find suitable work (or enter into higher degree programs) within 6 months of successfully completing their degrees.

    This degree has the potential to earn you positions with a wide range of organisations in the public, private and not for profit sectors. However, if you wish to become a Chartered Psychologist, you will have to undertake further study at the postgraduate level. Many such programs are avaiable.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have earned 112 UCAS Tariff points, 3 A Levels at BBC or better, or the international equivalent. The full list of qualifications which are accepted can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 or better overall would qualify, for example.
