    Course Summary

Queen Margaret University offers a unique MSc program in Sexual and Reproductive Health. This course was specifically developed to give graduates the medical, psychological and social skills they will need to provide sexual and reproductive health support to low income patients and clients in the developing world. It is just one of the courses QMU has developed to allow young people to really make a difference in the lives of people who need their support the most.

Delivered by QMU’s Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD), this program specialises in health policy and practice in low income communities on the national and international levels. You’ll study the social and political issues affecting sexual and reproductive health in vulnerable communities in Scotland and abroad. Perhaps more importantly, though, you’ll learn how to integrate theory and practice to make meaningful changes to people’s lives in ways they will truly appreciate.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Course Outline

This degree program is typically delivered over a single year at full time, or at part time in as many as seven years. This material can be taken in several different modes:

    • You can also take the program as a Post Graduate Diploma (PgDip) in Finance by taking the same module load but without the Desk Study or Fieldwork Project requirement.
    • You can take a more limited line-up of modules, and leave with a PgCert, a Post graduate Certificate in Finance.
    • In addition, you may take individual modules on a CPD basis, and apply them to a subsequent degree program later.

    Core Modules Include:

    • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender
    • Researching Global Health and Development
    • Health and Development
    • Global Public Health; and Health Systems
    • Global Health and Social Policy

    Learning & Teaching

You can expect a mix of large lectures, smaller, more interactive seminars, simulation exercises and tutorial sessions. Many of the modules will also include special sessions including scheduled guest speakers, site visits or field trips and group or individual projects. You’ll also complete a Dissertation based on a desk study or on fieldwork you will conduct personally.
