    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered in a single year at full time, but can also be taken over 2 years at part time. The outline below assumes full time attendance.

    Term 1:

    During your first term you’ll study Functional Programming, Semi-Structured Data and Advanced Data Modelling. You’ll also be able to select two or more of the following modules:

    • Design for Human Interaction
    • Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
    • Machine Learning
    • Natural Language Processing

    Term 2:

    Your second term will see you exploring Bayesian Decision & Risk Analysis as well as Security & Authentication. In addition, you’ll choose two or more modules from the following list:

    • Design for Human Interaction
    • Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
    • Machine Learning
    • Natural Language Processing

    Term 3:

    Term 3 consists exclusively of your Computer Science project, worth a substantial part of your marks for the program as a whole.

    Learning & Teaching

    Queen Mary’s MSc in Computer Science uses traditional lecture and seminar models for many taught modules, but also makes use of a great deal of hands-on computer and lab time. You will also be expected to do a great deal of self-directed study either individually or in small groups.

    Entry Credit

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    Applicants for this MSc degree must have already achieved an upper second class degree at the Bachelor’s level, ideally in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Maths or some other similar discipline. Unrelated degrees will be considered if the applicant can also show industrial experience.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students

    Overseas students must have achieved an equivalent level of academic accreditation to EU and UK students. A list of the overseas accreditations accepted can be found here.
