    Course Summary

    Robert Gordon University’s MSc in Financial Management is designed to deliver both a general background knowledge and a set of business skills which can be applied in nearly any industry. It also gives you an in-depth understanding of the theories which underlie modern financial practice, and the skills you’ll need to analyse the kind of financial management challenges modern businesses within the UK and abroad face every day.

    You’ll learn to identify and evaluate risks, to propose and then implement practical solutions to institutional finance challenges, and to set finance strategy. You’ll also pick up highly transferrable skills in investment and portfolio management, stockbroking and more. With thse skills, your future in corporate finance is all but assured.

    This program is typically delivered over one year at full time or two years at full time. The following breakdown assumes part time attendance.

    • Capstone Module

    The Capstone Module is essentially a Dissertation requirement. It encourages students to fully integrate all of the Masters level concepts they have studied, and demonstrate their skills by producing an independent research project on a topic of their choice from within this or a quite closely related discipline.

    Learning & Teaching

    Robert Gordon University relies on several teaching methods. However, almost all modules make extensive use of both formal lectures and more interactive tutorials. Students will typically spend 8 hours per week in lectures, in groups of only 20 students. They will spend approximately 4 hours per semester in tutorial sessions and up to 2 hours per semester in seminars, in groups of 10-15. Practical skills sessions account for another 2 hours each week.

    Career Possiblities

    RGU’s Financial Management program is of interest both to potential accountants and to those who aspire to management roles within nearly any type of company. Practicing accountants will be able to specialise in finance, audit or economic accounting. This could lead to a career in an investment institution, an accountancy or consultancy firm, a domestic or international bank, or in wholesale or retail commerce. Other students will pursue a PhD or other research degree.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in an MSc, a PgDip or a PgCert award.

    Students must typically have achieved a 2:2 or better undergraduate degree before they can apply, but other qualifications are also accepted. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no section lower than 6.0 would qualify, for example.
