    Course Summary

A BSc in Agricultural Management from the Royal Agricultural University is designed to prepare you well for a career in land management advice, environmental management, farm management or agricultural consultancy. In addition to the practicalities of the agricultural sector, you’ll learn about environmental protection and sustainability, crop and livestock production techniques, business planning and proper soil analysis methods.

You’ll learn in the classroom to be sure, but you’ll also engage in frequent field trips and site visits, exploring agribusinesses and enterprises that deal with crops and livestock first hand. This will help to bridge the gaps between your business and land management subjects, and give you a real sense for how the agricultural sector of the economy operates. This program includes an optional work based research project. This involves experience with a local agribusiness. It will be vital to gaining a real appreciation of the industry, as well as finding your place within it.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Learning & Teaching

You’ll attend the formal lectures, interactive seminars and skills workshops you’d expect from a modern university, but you’ll also spend a great deal of time in RAU laboratories and farms as well as at local farms and agribusinesses. You’ll also complete an Integrated Farm Planning Project including a business plan.

    Career Possiblities

More than 93% of RAU’s graduates find suitable work (or enter into higher degree programs) within 6 months of successfully completing their degrees. Of those who have gone into the agricultural sector in the UK or abroad, most have accepted roles like Grain Trader, Agricultural Supplier, Farm and  / or Environmental Advisor, Agricultural or Land-Based Consultant, Food and Bio Crop Manager and Farm or Estate Manager at organisations such as AGCO, NIAB TAG and Agrii.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree or degree top-up.

Applicants must typically have earned a foundation degree, an HND award with merit or the international equivalent. The full list of qualifications which are accepted can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. A good IELTS score would qualify, for example.
