    Course Summary

The Royal Agricultural University’s BSc in Agriculture is the heir to more than 170 years of tradition in innovative, cutting edge farm and land management science. Not only will you gain a deep understanding of the scientific and biological principles which underlie agriculture, you’ll come to understand the needs of the agricultural industry and the ways it responds to challenges and opportunities.

You’ll learn in the classroom to be sure, but you’ll also engage in frequent field trips and site visits, exploring agribusinesses and enterprises that deal with crops and livestock first hand. This will help to bridge the gaps between your business, science and land management subjects, and give you a real sense for how the agricultural sector of the economy operates. This program includes a 20 week working placement as a part of year 2. This will be vital to gaining a real appreciation of the industry, and finding your place within it.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

You’ll attend the formal lectures, interactive seminars and skills workshops you’d expect from a modern university, but you’ll also spend a great deal of time in RAU laboratories and farms as well as at local farms and agribusinesses. In your final year you’ll conduct a research project relevant to your career plans.

    Career Possiblities

More than 93% of RAU’s graduates find suitable work (or enter into higher degree programs) within 6 months of successfully completing their degrees. Of those who have gone into the agricultural sector in the UK or abroad, most have accepted rewarding roles such as Agronomist, Nutritionist, Geneticist / Breeding Specialist, Farm Manager, Health and Welfare Manager or Animal Scientist at organisations such as AGCO, NIAB TAG and Agrii, among many others.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

Applicants must typically have earned 104 UCAS Tariff points or the international equivalent. The full list of qualifications which are accepted can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. A good IELTS score would qualify, for example.
