    A BEng in Computer Engineering from Ryerson University’s Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering is a great way to get yourself into one of the fastest growing fields in the world, and one in which most major employers in North America struggle to find all of the qualified graduates they need every year.     Computer Engineers are primarily concerned with computer hardware systems, firmware (the coding which controls processors) interfaces and the software which tie all these aspects together. By the time you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to build a computer system from scratch, interface it with the outside world and with external computer systems, supply it with efficient firmware and code both the system software and applications it needs to operate effectively.

    Learning And Teaching

    Ryerson University of relies upon many standard teaching techniques. These are chosen with the subject matter in mind, but will almost always include formal lectures, interactive tutorials and skills sessions as well as seminar classes. Remember that Ryerson is a major research university, and you will be able to contribute to these programs yourself in later years.

    The Computer Engineering program also offers optional internships, summer research positions and the option to specialise your degree.

    Career Possibilities

    Many of Ryerson’s Computer Engineering students have gone on to Master’s level programs all over the world. Ryerson itself several graduate programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and even offers scholarships and funding options for excellent candidates. 

    Other students go right into work, in research and development, quality control, design production engineering, health care systems design or any of the electronic service industries. Others take software-based roles, maintaining commercial programs and systems.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BEng degree.

    Applicants must typically have graduated from a Canadian or overseas secondary school with an average of 70% or better, or the international equivalent.

    All classes are taught in English unless otherwise indicated, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
