This degree program should give you the flexibility you’ll need to take advantage of the most sought-after opportunities and to win the most rewarding roles. You’ll learn in the classroom, but also in the lab, participating in some of the most advanced computer science research in the country.

Computer Science is a booming field, and one where skilled MSc and PhD graduates are in high demand by employers in almost every industry and economic sector. Demand is much higher at the MSc level than it is for CS undergraduates, and Ryerson’s program is particularly well respected by employers. All that means that you’ll have a huge advantage when it comes time to search for your first few roles in the field, whether at a leadership level or as a technical specialist.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Course Outline

This degree program is typically delivered over one year of full time study, or over two years at part time. The part time option is particularly attractive to prospective students who are already working in their chosen career, as it is designed to fit around existing work, family or personal commitments.

It can follow one of two degree pathways. One is project-based, and will have as a deliverable a live project designed to answer real world business or industrial demands.

The other is thesis-based, and will see you conducting a substantial amount of your own research. You will take fewer individual courses in this pathway, but do substantially more research work.

Either pathway could see you exploring any or all of the university’s research specialties, including:

    • Software Engineering
    • Robotics
    • Networks
    • Machine Learning
    • Data Science
    • Data Mining
    • Cyber-security
    • Computer Vision
    • Computer Graphics
    • Augmented and Virtual Reality
    • Artificial Intelligence
