    Course Summary

Saint Mary’s University offers two connected Engineering programs. One is a 2 year Diploma in Engineering, which serves as an excellent foundation for another degree. It works as the first 2 years of any CEAB accredited BEng program, providing a foundation in technical communications, natural science, mathematics, design and engineering science. It gives you all you’ll need to pursue a later specialisation in Mineral Resources, Environmental, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, Civil of Mechanical Engineering.

The other option is to get a 4 year BSc on Mathematics with a Diploma in Engineering.

    Co-operative Education option

Any of the university’s BSc degrees can be taken with co-op content. This will see you doing paid work as you learn.

    Overseas and Exchange options

Saint Mary’s Mathematics students will be able to sign up for a range of academic exchange programs with the university’s partner institutions in Africa, South America, Asia or Europe.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Learning And Teaching

Saint Mary’s University relies on a wide range of learning and teaching methods. They seek to blend both traditional and innovative techniques to produce a unique curriculum appropriate to each degree they offer. For example, you’ll attend large lecture classes but also smaller and more interactive seminars and tutorial sessions. Many subjects have experiential or co-operative learning content. The Engineering program includes hands on and community-based learning sessions, for example.

    Career Possibilities

A degree in Mathematics and Engineering from Saint Mary’s University can lead to many different careers. Many Baccalaureate level students stay on for a Master’s degree, though many others go directly into working in their chosen field. Some students take their 2 year Engineering Diploma and finish their BEng at nearby schools like Dalhousie University or the University of Windsor. Engineering graduates can apply for roles as electrical, industrial, civil, chemical, environmental, automotive or mechanical engineers.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will either result in a Diploma in Engineering or a BSc in Mathematics with a Diploma in Engineering.

Applicants must typically have completed a secondary school education or the international equivalent. Great weight will be given to the GPA earned by your final year.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
