    Course Summary

    Seneca College offers an 8 month graduate certificate in Project Management geared for the Environmental and Civil Engineering Technology fields. It is designed for recent graduates with a baccalaureate degree or 3-year diploma holder in a science or environmental field, as well as for professionals with at least 3 years of experience in a closely related field. 

    You’ll study project management generally, as well as in the specific context of civil or environmental engineering projects. As you learn, you’ll gain important skills in leadership, teamwork and collaboration, scheduling and risk management. You’ll also learn how to manage and close projects of all kinds. 

    In the latter part of this program, you’ll gain real world working experience working an engineering project in a managerial capacity, under the close supervision of an on-site mentor. This kind of hands-on experience will set you apart from other graduates, and help you build a professional contact network.

    Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over 8 months at full time.  

    Term 1

    In your first term you’ll learn what is expected of a project manager, as well as adding advanced business and professional skills to your existing capabilities. You’ll learn how to communicate in a business context, and how to develop a truly comprehensive plan which will guide the project, not hinder it.

    Term 2

    In the second term, you’ll learn more about project management generally, but also in the context of both Environmental and Civil Engineering. You’ll also gain arrange of technical skills, including facility with modern Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You’ll also complete an internship in the field.

    You’ll graduate with a deep understanding of the engineering and scientific principles which underlie civil and environmental engineering projects, as well as modern leadership and management techniques. This alone will qualify you for a wide range of roles, such as Policy Analyst, Team Lead for Field Investigations Project Associate, Project Assistant or Project Co-ordinator. These roles will in turn prepare you for a more advanced career in project management.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in an 8 month post graduate certification in Project Management (Environmental and Civil Engineering)

    To apply, you should have a 3 year diploma or 4 year degree in a science or environmental field, or have several years of relevant experience in the industry. You will also need to own a laptop computer. 

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
