    Course Summary

    Psychology as a discipline involves the study of what it means to be a thinking being. It is also a calling whereby counsellors can help people to overcome difficulties and lie a fuller, happier life. This program is ideal for anyone who is fascinated with how people think, feel and act.

    As you study this fascinating science, you’ll come to understand the basic nature of human thought, behaviour and emotion. You’ll also gain a general background in all of the sciences which inform Psychology, from Human Biology and Biochemistry to Mathematics and Statistics. You’ll also explore how learning, thinking and feeling are affected by the physicality of the brain, genetics, and the environment.

    Sheffield Hallam University’s BSc in Psychology will allow you to vastly expand your knowledge of the science and practice of psychology. You won’t be limited to the theoretical level, though. You’ll do work placements in real world settings and learn to practice psychology in a people-focused, clinical context as well.

    Learning & Teaching

    The modules in Sheffield Hallam University’s Psychology BSc degree program rely on a wide range of teaching methods. Each tutor is a specialist who is expert in their field of study. They will use techniques such as individual tutorial sessions, laboratory classes, practical skills workshops, small group seminars and traditional large scale lectures to convey their expertise in developmental, work and health, forensic and / or social psychology to you.

    Career Possiblities

    You’ll have your choice of several career paths. You could continue your academic studies to the MSc or PhD levels. You could pursue specific professional training in Counselling, Forensic, Health, Occupational, Educational or Clinical Psychology. Alternatively, you could join the skilled workforce straight away. Recent graduates have gone into teaching, the civil service, education, counselling, advice and support work, social work, human resources, management, marketing or a range of other related fields.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved 120 UCAS tariff points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    International qualifications for this course can be found here. All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no less than 5.5 in any one section.
