    Course Summary

Economics is a complex yet lucrative field of study. Businesses all over Canada and the world as a whole seek out skilled economic analysts to help them make economic predictions and craft business strategies, just as public sector organisations need skilled economists to administer development programs, develop economic policy and regulate the private sector.

You’ll study both micro and macroeconomics, labour economics, public policy, finance and the unique ways economics interacts with fields like health care, sport and more.

A BA in Economics from Simon Fraser University will give you a wide range of economic and research skills. It will also let you develop the kind of narrowly focused specialty you’ll need to make a professional or academic career for yourself. You can pursue an Economics major through the standard BA program, though if you intend to continue on to graduate school and an MA or PhD degree, you should take the BA (Honours) program.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
