Course Summary
A BA in History from SOAS gives you an understanding of the discipline as a whole, but also the ability to specialise in the complex interwoven history of the Near East, Middle East, Africa and Asia. The modules in this program are taught by specialist scholars of these regions, and you’ll have the ability to select elective and optional modules which fit your own interests and preferred career path.
You’ll explore topics as diverse as modern Japan, China’s multi-thousand year history as a world power, the rise of Muslim communities in West Africa, the role of the international slave and indentured servitude trade, India from the time of the Mughal Emperors to the present day and the long, troubled history of the Middle East and South East Asia. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to learn one or more of that languages of your area of study, deepening your connection dramatically.
