    Course Summary

St George’s University London’s Global Health, Infection and Immunity MSc looks at the most common causes of human disease worldwide. These include HIV, influenza and Tuberculosis, but also looks at new infectious agents and pathogens and infections in vulnerable individuals.

You’ll become an expert on how pathogens change in response to medicines and antibiotics, becoming so called ‘superbugs’. You’ll learn about how the immune system works on the cellular and molecular level, how it works to protect from infection and what can go wrong when it is triggered inappropriately. You’ll study how infection and immunity interact, and become acquainted with the latest developments in vaccinations and immunotherapy.

This is a highly multidisciplinary field, and students often plan careers in such widely separated fields as Sustainable Development, Education, Humanitarian Relief and Health Policy. Some will come from a medical background, but others will have a prior education based on law, politics, the social sciences or ethics.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
